This evolution might be done either to adapt an instrument's quality to musicians' and composers' needs, or to enable it to produce new sounds. In this study, we want to control the sound quality and playability of wind instruments, using modal active control. The modal active control makes it possible to modify the input impedance (frequency, gain and damping) of these instruments and to modify the instrument's quality. The simulations for a first experiment are presented here. We simulate a control of the modes (frequency, damping) of a cylinder, which is considered as a simple " wind instrument ". We consider the use of a microphone, a speaker, an observer and a controller to modify theses modes, then we look at the modifications on the sound and playability using Modalys. Our next goal will be to apply the control to a real cylinder, and to evaluate it in a musical context with a musician.

Session 2pEAb: Controlling Sound Quality 2pEAb7. Active control applied to simplified wind musical instrument
*Corresponding author's address: Equipe Acoustique Instrumentale, IRCAM, 1 place Igor Stravinsky, Paris, 75004, Paris, France, [email protected] Active control is widely used in industry. However, there have been relatively few applications to musical instruments, particularly wind instruments. The aim of this study is to attempt to control the sound quality and playability of wind in...
متن کاملImprovement Performances of Active and Reactive Power Control Applied to DFIG for Variable Speed Wind Turbine Using Sliding Mode Control and FOC
This paper deals with the Active and Reactive Power control of double-fed induction generator (DFIG) for variable speed wind turbine. For controlling separately the active and the reactive power generated by a DFIG, field oriented control (FOC) and indirect sliding mode control (ISMC) are presented. These non linear controls are compared on the basis of topology, cost, efficiency. The main cont...

متن کاملActive and Reactive Power Management of Wind Farm Based on a Six Leg Tow Stage Matrix Converter Controlled by a Predictive Direct Power Controller
In this paper we propose a new configuration of the wind farm connecting with an electrical grid. The proposed Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS) is based on a two stages six-leg matrix converter using to drive a two Doubly Fed Induction Machines operating at different wind speeds. Each Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) is controlled through the rotor currents using the Finite Set Model P...
